I've especially \"Truman\" and \"1776\" by McCullough. Both demonstrate that personal character and courage are the most important qualities in inspiring followers. For different reasons, I would also like to recommend \"Benjamin Franklin: An American Life\" by Walter Isaacson. Franklin iis a good example of the leadership power of hard work, intellectual curiosity, and the desire to understand and improve products and institutions. I also admire the way Franklin used diplomacy and Socratic questioning as leadership tools. I liked what it had to say about global warming, but in my opinion the story was weak and there were several scenes it could have done without. Still, it's not everyday you read a novel with a forty-page bibliography. If you want to get past all the hype and get to some real facts about global warming, this is a good book to read. Basically, the author says that nobody understand the climate well enough to make long-range predictions about the climate. Think about how often the weather forecast is right and then consider that the climate is vastly more complex and less understood than weather patterns, you'll begin to doubt how well science can predict ten years let alone a hundred years into the future. This book reveals the tragedy of the last 60 years in North Korea through skillfully crafted mini-biographies of six defectors from the same home town but very diverse parts of the North Korean cast system. Reading this book was a real eye opener to the true costs of unrighteous peace. This reading was accentuated by a tour of the DMZ where I witnessed the bold stand off between forces which remains blatantly hostile even after these 60 years & and a trip into Downtown Seoul for a lantern festival where I witnessed the extreme affluence and hyperactivity of South Korea. What a testimony to the principles of capitalism and government by the people for the people.\nhttp:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0385523912\/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=reahigdes-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=0385523912&adid=00NYWR8P1XQ2AS4HJCM1","created_time":"2011-11-17T07:37:26+0000","likes":1},{"id":"10150294169004604_19764831","from":{"name":"Aubrey Dustin","id":"100000341175798"},"message":"Mandy and I both read a couple of very interesting survival Novels over the past few weeks. These books are definitely not on the same playing field as the one Aubrey mentions here, but they were a fun read. Think Monte Python, and you'll get the idea of what kind of reading these were. Anyway, even thought the books were mostly an exercise in absurdist humor, there were some interesting commentaries on life, the universe, and everything. They were a fun read, and a nice break before I begin my next project: The Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers were written to defend the constitution and to persuade people to vote for it. They are quite possibly the best place to go to understand how the founding fathers saw the constitution. The Anti-Federalist Papers were written by people who opposed the constitution or parts of the constituion. My goal is to get a better understanding of the founding document of our country.
